From Rich Naran:
Through the years I watched as healthcare changes morphed the institution into as it stands now. I recall hearing Senator Ted Kennedy sounding the healthcare alarm in the seventies and eighties. I remember how his words fell with a resounding thud onto deaf ears. After all why should anyone listen to a man who could afford to buy and fully fund his own healthcare facility. Now, as we let ourselves find out the hard way, we realize we should have listened.
What is Project HealthCare about?
It is about organizing the drive to tackle health care reform. It is about gathering up the efforts large and small, fully funded or grassroots bareknucked and forming a body of one to secure the initiation of change to improve the people's right to a better quality of life. It is about you and me, the children, the grandchildren and the grandparents as well. To allow our national healthcare system to continue to decline is to rip out the very backbone of our nation. It is time to stop listening and start taking action.
Taking on Project HealthCare.
When I developed the concepts of my other websites, Rich Naran's Depression Awareness and Rich Naran's Initiative they were tied together by the ideal of addressing healthcare in this country. Inadequate healthcare coverage or altogether lack of any healthcare coverage allows people with mental illness to sink deeper into illness and people with treatable medical problems to die everyday.
How my role in this matured.
A day doesn't go by where I don't read or hear about the failure and damage to life our healthcare system breeds. I grow sick of watching commercials about drug companies running token programs to provide medication to the needy. Not when the CEO makes enough to fund several states worth of medication needs, can I find this acceptable. Not when for every person who appears in the commercial thousands more will never see their needed medications. Not when the cost of the commercial could have supplied meds to thousands who are in need. I tired long ago of hearing a political candidate tell me "There is a problem." If I wanted to hear what I already know all the time, I would have purchased a cockatoo, thank you.
I am tired of reading politicians proposed plan to propose a plan to tackle the healthcare shortcomings. I call them, The Rhetorical Proposals. This philosophical approach is for those who want to sit in a room and have someone come in and dust them off once in a while. They produce no movement and they aren't going anywhere. I realized I could no longer sit back and take this anymore. When confronted with intolerable situations and unconscionable acts, I issue a one word statement, "UNACCEPTABLE."
How does one initiate action?
I thought about this as I have published on the subject at my sites and elsewhere. Long ago, I realized the time was now. In truth, the time was yesterday, but that passes everyday probably taking a thousand or so lives along with it. To fund this action sacrifices had to be made. As I say at my Initiative site, it is all about "Taking The First Step." Two months ago, I realized the sacrifice that had to be made and the risk that it entailed. I have now joined the ranks of the medically uninsured. In order to fund this project, I suspended or should I say terminated my insurance cobra policy this past month. By today's standards, this was an above average coverage supplied by a group policy. Hopefully, these monies will be enough to help fund Project HealthCare to make a difference.
